The Singer class 99 sewing machine was introduced in 1911 as a response to the growing demand for a lighter more portable domestic sewing machine that did not need to be used in a special table.
The 99 had a long production of over 47 years, between 1911 and 1958, when the mechanically identical 185k took over. A 3/4 size machine, the 99 was also mechanically identical to its big brother, the 66. This makes it very strong for its size and so is good for tough jobs that don't need a huge harp space.
